Need a length in a different unit?

Turn an inch measurement into millimeters without changing the distance. FluffyBench's Length Converter gives you the answer as you type.

How it works
  1. Your length
  2. The units you need
  3. An answer ready to use

Length units

Meter (m), Millimeter (mm), Centimeter (cm), Kilometer (km), Inch (in), Foot (ft), Yard (yd), Mile (mi).

More than one answer

The result list also gives your length in the other units, each with its own Copy button.

Local calculation

FluffyBench calculates lengths in your browser, without sending your number for conversion.

Limits Use a measured or known length as your starting value.

Same length, different units

Think of relabeling a stretch of tape: the marks don't move when you change units. 1 inch is 25.4 mm exactly.

Aligned inch and millimeter rulers start at zero and end together: 1 inch equals 25.4 mm exactly.
The same span has a different number because millimeters are smaller than inches. How we reviewed

Doing it in FluffyBench's Length Converter

Here's an inch measurement converted to millimeters, from choosing units to copying the answer.

  1. The From and To unit pickers above FluffyBench's length workspace.

Step 1. Start with the units: From is what you have; To is what you need.
    1. Open From to choose your starting unit.
    2. To chooses the unit for the answer.
  2. The From picker lists Inch, Foot, Yard and Mile.

Step 4. Enter your measurement's number. FluffyBench updates the result as you type; there's no Convert button.
    1. Type 1 in Input value.
    2. The input unit is inches.
  5. The result is 25.4 millimeters with Copy above it; the other unit rows have their own Copy buttons.
The result is 25.4 millimeters with Copy above it; the other unit rows have their own Copy buttons.
Step 5. Read the answer in millimeters. Copy takes 25.4, without its unit; grouped results lose their display commas too.
    1. Read 25.4 millimeters.
    2. Copy takes the selected result's number.
    3. Each other unit has its own number and Copy button.

A blank or invalid number leaves no result to copy. If clipboard access is unavailable, FluffyBench's message offers manual selection and copying.

Check the length before you use it

Before you use a converted length, check that its unit matches what your document or destination field asks for.

A real result shows 25.4 mm. An arrow points to an illustrated note reading Length: 25.4 mm, with the added unit underlined.
A field already labeled mm needs the number; a standalone note needs the unit beside it.

What the decimal result means

FluffyBench shows up to 14 significant digits—digits counted from the first nonzero digit. An exact unit definition can still give you a decimal that needs rounding.

1 inch equals 25.4 mm exactly. 1 m is displayed as 3.2808398950131 feet, rounded to 14 significant digits.
Extra decimal places don't make your original measurement more accurate; use the precision your work calls for.

Which foot and mile does FluffyBench use?

Mile in FluffyBench means the statute mile (1,609.344 m). A nautical mile is 1,852 m and isn't a choice on this page.

Statute and nautical miles share a zero to 2,000 meter axis. The statute bar ends at 1,609.344 m and the nautical bar at 1,852 m, both before 2,000 meters.
The two mile definitions describe different lengths.

Foot means the international foot. The older U.S. survey foot isn't offered; check which definition a survey names before using its measurements here.

For knots, which measure speed using nautical miles per hour, FluffyBench's Speed Converter handles the speed conversion. For a surface measured in square units, FluffyBench's Area Converter changes the area unit.
